About KmacD

Meet Kristy MacDonald

Hello!  For over 20 years, I have worked as a Financial Adviser in the north Brisbane suburb of Geebung. In 2023, I established KmacD Financial – a decision that allows me to continue providing easy to understand financial advice to the clients I work best with.

My focus has always been to educate clients about their entire financial situation. Not “just” investments, or “just” superannuation… but the whole picture. I believe it’s important that my clients have the chance to build wealth, and have a comfortable retirement; regardless of what life throws at them.

I enjoyed understanding how the financial industry works, and how both major and minor life events can affect a person’s financial future.

I proactively keep up to date with changes to and within the financial landscape. Investments are always part of long term goal. I am not financial adviser focussed on day to day trading. My focus is on the best placed strategies.

Background

Back in 1999, I fell into the financial planning industry by accident. I was living in country Victoria as my partner had been transferred for work and I was searching for an administration job.  A local financial planning practice took me on, and I have never looked back.

Career brought us back to Brisbane in 2002 and I have stayed in the industry working my way up from an admin role to adviser.

After my partner had a major health event in 2006, I learnt first hand the value of financial advice, income protection and to have a Plan B even if Plan A is working.

My personal experiences and gaining a comprehensive understanding of my clients personal situation has shaped the advice I give today.

Qualifications

I have been an Authorised Representative since 2001.

I have completed a Bachelor of Business (Management) and an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning.

I have attained Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification and currently completing my Masters of Financial Planning.

What sets us apart from other financial planners?

We always listen to our clients and always put their interests first.

We do not sell one product that we make you fit to.

We are happy to tell you that your current arrangements are fine and there is no need to change if it is appropriate.

We believe that the strategy is often more important than the product.

What is a Certified Financial Planner?

The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is the highest qualification.

CFP® professionals have met extensive training and experience requirements, and commit to the highest ethical standards that require them to put their clients’ interests first.

The highest designation in financial planning, coupled with commitment to the highest ethical standards, sets CFP® professionals apart from the rest.

A financial planner from a Bank or a superannuation fund may still give you good advice but they will be limited to the advice that they can provide.

Some superannuation funds will only let their advisers give advice on their fund.  If this is the case how are they giving good advice that takes into consideration your total financial situation.  Bank advisers usually have a limited product range they can recommend.

It is worth seeing a non-aligned financial planner as we are not linked to any product.  We take a fee for service.  This means that we are paid to give you advice not to sell you a product.

Who we love to work with

Ultimately, we work with all sorts of clients from all sorts of backgrounds with a variety of circumstances.

The common thread between them is the desire to improve their financial situation with a view towards a comfortable retirement.

Our clients value the services we provide, and are willing to work together to achieve their financial goals.

We are not looking to make money overnight, and neither are the clients we work best with. Rather, we are looking for steady, relatively stable growth towards clear and articulated goals.

We love being able to develop long term relationships with our clients, and be able to work with them through the various changes that come with life. We want to be there to assist with reviewing goals, adjusting plans when needed, and being able to offer additional advice and assistance when the time arises. We pride ourselves on offering a complete service that can change over time; and our clients appreciate us for that.

 OUR PROCESS

  • Our first meeting is an opportunity to gather information, discuss your goals and objectives, discuss strategies and ask questions.

Most initial meetings are one to two hours.

For this appointment I charge a fee of $330 including GST.
This is a no obligation appointment.

I will ask you to bring (or send in advance) details of your current assets, liabilities, income and expenses. We may also talk about your level of comfort with financial risk so we can get to work on the best strategy for you.

I am very happy to conduct our meetings in person or via Zoom/Teams.

  • If you confirm that you wish to proceed with a written recommendation, we then gather further detailed information and develop a bespoke strategy to match your goals and objectives.

  • We then meet again to discuss the recommendation we have made, and the steps required to achieve your goals and objectives.

We will explain everything in detail so you feel confident about setting your plan in motion.

  • With your approval, we fully implement the recommendations and strategy that we have developed for you.

We keep you informed through each stage of the process.

  • Ongoing monitoring of your financial situation is not always necessary - however it is always necessary to review.

We offer an annual review option or you are welcome to instigate a review when you decide it is necessary.

We will provide additional information regarding reviews during our initial meeting, depending on the level of ongoing service and financial monitoring you require.
